I'm a geologist by trade and spent more than 20 years working across the engineering, mining and construction industries. My career has taken me from the West Country to London, out to Australia and, eventually, back home again.
Although I loved many aspects of my career in engineering, I always felt pulled towards a more creative path. That probably comes from growing up in a very creative family — my mum is an artist and my brother is a musician — so creativity has always been part of my life. Alongside my full-time job, I studied graphic design in my spare time and, in 2024, decided to leave the industry to pursue a lifestyle that combined creativity, community and entrepreneurship.
At the time, I wasn't entirely sure where that creative journey would take me. Those plans were temporarily put on hold when a group of friends (one of which being Amy) and I set out to reopen our much-loved village pub as a volunteer-run community venture. Perhaps a little naively, I volunteered to become the Pub Manager!
Nearly two years later, although I've stepped away from the management role, I'm still involved in the community engagement, planning and delivering some of the events that have helped transform it into a thriving hub at the heart of our village.

Amy
My love for graphic design started a long time ago with a degree in Creative Media Practice. I started out as a graphic designer in North London designing clothing leaflets for Tesco, but I deeply missed Devon life and moved back down to be closer to family. Since then, I've had various jobs but have always been doing some kind of design—including starting Rainbow Mama, a clothing and accessories design business, during lockdown.
Running Sundae Paper Studio with my friend Hannah is a total dream, and there is nothing better than getting to design custom signage that makes a couple's big day feel entirely them. My love for making things doesn’t stop at the studio, though—I’m a total serial crafter and always have some sort of DIY project on the go.
Outside of the studio, life is all about family, friends, and getting outdoors. If I'm not on a forest walk with my husband, two kids, and our dog, I’m usually getting stuck into local community life, whether that's helping out with school PTA stuff or volunteering behind the bar at our local pub. And when the sun actually decides to come out, I love getting onto the water for a paddleboard with my family. I have yet to stand up with both kids without falling in!
We believe in simple ideas, strong relationships, and lasting impact. What began as a passion project has evolved into something more. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead.
